Liposuction And Tummy Tuck

Simultaneous liposuction and tummy tuck surgeries have been traditionally frowned upon. This is because a tummy tuck requires undermining of the abdominal skin to redrape and eliminate redundant skin. The process of undermining when performed using traditional techniques results in the compromise of a set of vessels that travel from the centrally located aorta, the main vessel of the body. These vessels, called perforators, traverse the tissues perpendicularly and arborizing as they terminate at the superficial skin layer. Once the perforators have been compromised, the skin can only get perfused by a horizontally oriented network of vessels shaped like a netting called the subdermal plexus.

Unfortunately, the subdermal plexus can be injured by traditional liposuction techniques. This is because liposuction requires traversing of hollow bore cannulas in a horizontal vector through the fatty layers. These hollow bore cannulas have been observed to irritate sensory nerves and injure the subdermal vessels process. As such, liposuction and tummy tuck using traditional techniques has been avoided.

Recent advances in liposuction tools and tummy tuck techniques have allowed our high definition liposuction center surgeons to perform simultaneous liposuction and tummy tuck procedures. The ultrasound-assisted liposuction provides the ability to perform fat removal with less physical injury to soft tissue structures. This is because ultrasound energy allows for fat cells to be tickled off of their solid-state fat clusters into liquid state single cells.  By converting a semisolid to a liquid state, the fat cells can be removed using a more gentle process thereby preserving the subdermal plexus vessels.

Modification of traditional tummy tuck maneuvers developed by our liposuction centers has allowed our surgeons to preserve critical perforators. By limiting undermining and utilizing ultrasound assistance to identify and protect perforators, we are now able to provide patients simultaneous liposuction and tummy tuck option.

Termed the Mowlavi 360 High Definition Tummy Tuck, we can now provide patients the opportunity to eliminate abdominal skin redundancy while achieving simultaneous abdominal etching. Utilizing a combination of liposuction and tummy tuck, our patients are enjoying transforming abdominal contouring that has been previously unprecedented. The combined liposuction and tummy tuck is the ideal procedure for patients that are concerned about both fat accumulation and skin redundancy of their bellies. There are some exclusion criteria for having this procedure done. These include a high positioned belly button and muscle diastasis.
