Your Consultation Explained

Your consultation is where the science, strategy, and artistry of high-definition body contouring come together. During this evaluation, you will learn how we systematically assess your anatomy and design a customized surgical plan that identifies the operative techniques that will be implemented to achieve your desired contour.

We will explain how our proprietary protocols help guide surgical planning, with the goal of creating refined, balanced results that reflect your individual anatomy and aesthetic objectives. You will learn how our High Definition Liposuction Body Scale and High Definition Abdominal Scale are used to structure your evaluation, guide surgical recommendations, and even assess contour improvements you achieve following surgery.

A Systematic Approach to Customized Surgical Planning

High-definition body contouring is not a one-size-fits-all procedure. Two patients with similar amounts of excess fat may require very different surgical approaches because of differences in skin elasticity, redundancy, and texture, as well as underlying muscle structure.

For this reason, your consultation involves a systematic assessment of each are of concern. We evaluate the individual soft-tissue components, including skin, fat, and muscle, to determine which techniques will be selected for each region and how those techniques can work together to create a cohesive, circumferential result.

We will use proprietary protocols designed to help organize these findings and translate them into a detailed surgical plan. Each recommended maneuver is tailored to your unique anatomy, desired outcomes, and the capabilities of the available techniques.

Understanding the High Definition Liposuction Body Scale

The High Definition Liposuction Body Scale is designed to help characterize your starting point and guide the selection of appropriate surgical interventions. This classification scale utilizes a range of scores spanning from 2 to 10 points, with a desired score of 9 or 10 representing the ultimate goal of a highly refined contour.

The grading system considers several factors that influence the complexity of body contouring, including:

  • Fat excess and distribution mismatch: The amount and location of excess fat, as well as how its distribution affects body proportions and definition.
  • Skin redundancy and texture: The degree of loose skin, reduced elasticity, and surface textural irregularities that may influence surgical planning.
  • Muscle integrity and definition: The condition and visibility of the underlying muscular anatomy and its contribution to the desired physique.

By evaluating these factors together, our High Definition Liposuction Body Scale helps frame the discussion surrounding your starting anatomy, the techniques chosen for your transformation, and the improvements realistically achievable.

The High-Definition Liposuction Body Scale, published in The American Journal of Cosmetic Surgery, remains the mainstay for guiding our surgeons when creating their customized surgical plan.

How Your Body Scale Helps Guide Treatment Selection

Your starting grade helps determine whether ultrasound-assisted liposuction alone may be appropriate or whether additional procedures should be considered to address skin laxity and tissue redundancy.

VASER ultrasound-assisted liposuction is used to facilitate fat removal and sculpting, reserved for isolated use in patients with a grade of 7 to 8. When appropriate, helium plasma-based radiofrequency technology may be incorporated to promote soft-tissue contraction reserved for patients with a grade of 6 to 7. However, when skin excess or laxity is more pronounced as in grades 3 through 6, surgical excision may be a more suitable option than relying on energy-based tightening alone. Finally, for patients with a grade of 2, a staged procedure may be necessary to achieve a the desired grade of a 9 to 10.

The objective of the High Definition Liposuction Body Scale is to match the optimal treatment to the severity of the concerns. Removal of fat, contraction of soft tissues, and elimination of excess skin are selected based on the degrees of concern, and your surgical plan must account for those differences.

Understanding the High-Definition Abdominal Body Scale

The abdomen often requires a more specialized evaluation because the appearance of the abdomen is influenced not only by fat distribution and skin quality, but also by the underlying musculature. The High Definition Abdominal Body Scale was developed to help assess these factors and guide decisions about whether abdominal liposuction alone may be appropriate or whether additional excisional procedures and/or even abdominal muscle repair will be required.

High Definition Abdominal Body Scale was published in The American Journal of Cosmetic Surgery to specifically assist surgeons with customizing surgical design of the abdomen.

Depending on your anatomic needs, options may include a limited undermining techniques that include a mini tummy tuck or a modified abdominal skin resection. These procedures may be considered when excess skin cannot be adequately addressed through liposuction and less invasive skin-tightening techniques alone.

For patients with significant abdominal muscle separation or attenuation formal muscle repair with a traditional tummy tuck may be necessary. In these cases, abdominal liposuction may need to be delayed to accommodate the surgical plan needed to repair the musculature.

These images were published in The American Journal of Cosmetic Surgery and depict the three options that may be considered for patients needing abdominal skin excision.

The purpose of the high-definition abdominal body scale is to help clarify the full range of anatomical factors affecting your undesirable abdominal appearance and help guide appropriate surgical recommendations.

Evaluating Every Area for a Balanced 360-Degree Result

Your consultation extends beyond a single treatment area. Each region of concern is evaluated independently, with attention to its fat distribution, skin redundancy and textural changes, as well as underlying muscle integrity.

We also consider how the proposed treatments will work together across the entire body. This comprehensive approach is essential because a successful contour in one area must complement the surrounding regions to create a balanced appearance from every angle.

By examining the individual components of each treatment area and their relationship to your overall physique, we can develop a surgical plan designed around your specific needs rather than applying a cookie cutter approach to every patient.

Your Consultation: The Foundation of Your Surgical Plan

By the end of your consultation, you will have a clearer understanding of your starting anatomy, the factors influencing your desired result, and the surgical options that may be appropriate for you. Your customized plan will outline the recommended operative maneuvers and explain how each is intended to address a specific concern.

High-definition body contouring begins with a precise assessment, not simply a decision about how much fat to remove. By systematically evaluating the skin, fat, and muscle across every area of concern, we aim to create a comprehensive plan for a refined, harmonious, and anatomically appropriate result.
